Key Trends in Infrastructure

1. Kaloleni Cultural Village — in planning

The proposed Kaloleni Cultural Village is intended as a multicultural facility supporting creative practice, community gatherings and the interpretation of local history. It would expand access to cultural infrastructure in Nairobi’s Eastlands area, while building on Kaloleni’s distinctive social and cultural identity. The project is currently at the planning stage.

2. The GoDown Arts and Culture Complex and Dunga Road cultural precinct — underway

The redevelopment of The GoDown Arts Centre will create a major multidisciplinary complex for artistic production, performance, exhibition, learning and public gathering. Led by The GoDown, the project is supported by Nairobi City County through a formal partnership, recognition as a flagship cultural project, inclusion in County development planning and institutional coordination. Work on the surrounding Dunga Road precinct is also testing safer, greener and more inclusive public space through community co-design.

3. Woodley Stadium and Social Hall — underway

Nairobi City County is redeveloping Woodley Stadium and its associated social hall as community infrastructure for sport, talent development, cultural activity and public gathering. The project is intended to improve facilities serving Kibra and neighbouring communities, where sports grounds and social halls are important places of identity, participation and youth development. The project is under development.

4. McMillan Memorial Library and branch libraries — underway

Nairobi City County and Book Bunk are restoring and reactivating the historic McMillan Memorial Library and its Eastlands and Kaloleni branches. The two branch libraries have been restored, while work on the main McMillan building and its collections continues. The partnership combines heritage conservation with reading, arts, learning, digital access and community programming.
