• NGV Contemporary will be Australia’s new home for contemporary art and design. With more than 13,000 square metres of display space, this new Victorian landmark will be situated in Melbourne’s iconic arts precinct and will form part of Australia’s largest ever cultural infrastructure project – the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation.
  • An immersive, multi-sensory experience, public art commission ‘Flash Forward’ is underway in Melbourne.
  • Melbourne’s largest market – Queen Victoria Market – is undergoing an AUD $268 million renewal including restoration of its heritage sheds, revitalisation of the surrounding precinct and the construction of a new library and community hub. 10% of this new development will be dedicated to social housing.
  • While the city was locked down, Melbourne fast-tracked 40 kilometres of new protected bike lanes. An electronic scooter trial has taken place, encouraging sustainable transport use and an alternative way to access the city.
  • The ‘Greenline’ project will deliver an uninterrupted 4 kilometre journey through urban parkland along the north bank of the Yarra River – Birrarung. Due to be completed in 2028 it will act as both a destination for residents and tourists, as well as celebrating the city’s rich heritage and Aboriginal culture, and enhancing the river environment.
