Decentralising Cultural Activity
The decentralisation of cultural activity throughout the five boroughs and increased appreciation of public space during the pandemic is leading to new investment embedding more cultural activity within the city’s streetscape.
Improve Equalities In Grant Making
New York City’s Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) is working to reform longstanding inequities in grant making for BIPOC-led arts organisations; this joins many sector-led efforts, such as Hue Arts NYC, aimed at fostering greater appreciation for the importance of cultural organisations in communities of colour.
The Value of Culture
An increased appreciation for and understanding of the value of culture to public health, safety, and education – in addition to the well recognised economic value and attraction to tourists – continues to shape how cultural activity is understood and supported
All of these projects include City government funding and are supported by the public-private partnerships that define New York City’s cultural sector.
