Museum Projects
Government, private companies and philanthropists have all initiated major museum capital projects in the last few years, including the art museum Amos Rex, opened in 2018 and the planned new Museum of Architecture and Design.
Arts Investment
Cultural investment in Finland has traditionally been led and funded by government; now ‘activist foundations’ led by wealthy individuals or groups are encouraging state and City government to invest in arts infrastructure, resulting in the House of Dance, among other institutions.
Culture in the Suburbs
There is a policy emphasis on providing access to culture in the suburbs. The skills of artists are used by the whole city across sectors. And the city ensures that every Helsinki resident has a connection to art and culture throughout life.
