Divided Communities

Chicago’s communities remain largely divided along racial and socioeconomic lines. The city consistently ranks among the top five most segregated cities in America.

Access to Opportunity

In recent years, dramatic steps have been taken to promote greater access to opportunity and higher quality of life for all of Chicago’s residents, in particular Black and Latino residents that live in south and west side communities.

Managing Perception

Real and perceived issues related to crime and violence seek to undermine Chicago communities by threatening the health and well-being of the city’s residents, and viability of the city as a major tourist destination.

Falling Population

Chicago area has lost population for the past four years, and the metro area alarmingly fell below 9.5 million for the first time since 2010.
