Community Curating
With an increasingly diverse population there is a successful track record in co-curating cultural events between communities and artists to ensure inclusivity for all. Often responding to current issues facing local communities’, projects are informed by and reflect the local people’s history, heritage and current interests. Participation has been high as initiatives look to a multi-channel engagement approach to make information and activities more widely accessible.
Focus on Family
Family oriented cultural events are becoming more popular, with programming in libraries and cultural institutions. This is increasingly including activities outdoors in the city’s parks and public spaces. These have become so popular that visitors must often book tickets in advance.
Investing in Artists
Public art is becoming more diverse, crossing art forms and embracing the contemporary and traditional, transient and permanent. This is encouraged through a Public Works budget which allows 1% of the cost of any public development to be allocated to commissioning a work of art.
