Pandemic Impact

Over two years and three lockdowns, Londoners turned to culture on their doorsteps supporting mental health and community connection. However, this is set against a devastating economic and social context. The national government plans to cut London’s arts funding by up to £70 million by 2025 and local council expenditure on cultural services has fallen by 50% across England since 2010.

Challenges After Leaving EU

London is facing up to challenges of the UK no longer being in the EU’s single market. This has meant new travel restrictions for artists and fewer tours. Music and the performing arts have been badly hit, with the National Theatre no longer touring in the EU. There are also difficulties around broadcast rights and intellectual property regulations.
